MONKSTOWN HOCKEY CLUB
www.monkstownhockeyclub.ieMonkstown hockey club was founded in 1894 and has existed in the Dun Laoghaire Borough for most of these 119 years. For the past 22 years it has been based in Rathdown School, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
Currently we run 5 men’s senior teams and 3 ladies’ senior teams in the club. The men’s first team is one of the top Leinster and Irish club sides with a number of international players and competing in the national IHL for the last number of years. The ladies section only started 4 years ago but has been a huge success. In that short time the ladies 1st XI have moved from Div 14 to Div 5 and we now have 3 senior teams and plans to increase this number in the coming years. Interested hockey players should attend Ladies training at 8pm on Tuesdays or 8pm on Wednesdays for Men.
The youth section (6 to 16 year olds) of the club is thriving, with over 350 boys and girls playing every week. Trevor Watkins is our Director of Coaching as we believe strongly in our youth development structure within MHC so that all players develop their skills and experience so that they can play at the highest level. We feel strongly that having a well coached under age section is key to the continued strength of our club. We encourage more members to become coaches & will sponsor any interested member in doing coaching courses. Monkstown hockey club has been lucky enough to receive the IHA award for the best Youth Section in the country on a couple of occasions recently. For the older hockey players we also run veterans (over 35s) on Wednesday nights.
The committee email is monkstowncommittee@gmail.com so do get in touch. We believe health and fitness is such a key ingredient of life that we encourage any person who wishes to be part of our family to come down and experience the warmth and camaraderie that Monkstown Hockey Club can offer.
